How An Online Meditation Coach Can Transform Your Meditation Practice

Looking for an online meditation coach?

Meditation has always been a challenge for many, perhaps you are reading this post because you too have tried meditation several times and have failed at it. Why is meditation so difficult?

In this post, I shall share with you why you may need to hire a meditation coach and five qualities you should look for in a meditation coach.

As a personal trainer, a meditation coach is the person who will motivate you to build, and continue, a daily practice, so your life truly transforms through your meditation practice. Here are the top five reasons you should consider having a meditation coach.

How a Meditation Coach can help YOU

How Meditation Coaching Will Help You

It’s very easy to get stuck in meditation – If you have ever tried meditation, you know what I meant.

In fact, without the support of a teacher, it’s quite possible that you waste your time not getting results and then finally give up These are some prominent areas wherein a meditation coach can have a profound impact on your meditation practice.

1. Establishing A Daily Meditation Habit

It can be quite difficult to maintain a regular meditation practice without anyone to talk to. I personally feel a meditation coach can play a huge role when it comes to establishing a meditation practice. You can share your personal experiences or obstacles you face during meditation and have solutions to overcome them and move forward.

2. Find Out Which Meditation Technique Suits Your Needs & Personality

Not all meditation styles are right for everyone. Every meditation practice requires different skills and mindsets. Although there isn’t a right or wrong way to meditate, however, how do you know which practice is right for your personality and unique needs?

When you speak to an experienced teacher about your meditation practice and needs, he would be able to suggest you meditation techniques/practices which would that become sustaining, supportive, and enjoyable.

3. How To Maintain The Enthusiasm For Meditation (So That It Does Not Become Boring)

If meditation is forced then it becomes a chore. The more you make meditation a mechanical process, then you take the whole joy out of it. Meditation shouldn’t be practiced like homework then it would get boring.

A meditation coach can re-kindle your passion by showing you how you use meditation practice to discover new things about yourself. Discovering your new self is never boring, it is a fascinating exploration of finding answers about what is happening inside you.

4. How To Prevent Negative Side Effects You Might Experience During Meditation

Most of us have a busy life and have little time for reflecting on the emotions, stress, and feelings that consume us the whole day. It won’t be wrong to say that there may be a huge number of “unprocessed files” within our mental space.

As you practice meditation, you slow down, become quiet and connect to what is stored in your internal space, which can release unprocessed anxiety, grief, fear, anger, and other traumatic emotional releases – This can make things worse for you.

If you do not know how to deal with this emotional baggage or dark negative energy within you then it can only harm you. An experienced meditation teacher can be of immense help here, under his guidance you will learn how to handle or process such information in a meaningful way so that it helps you grow through these experiences.

5. How To Integrate Mindfulness & Meditation In Your Daily Life

Meditation is not one of the items on your to-do list that you do as the day begins and forget. In order to improve your well-being and cultivate a calm, focused mind you need to integrate meditation and mindfulness practices throughout your day.

A meditation coach will be able to provide you personalized meditations that give you greater insights and the ability to become more mindful about what drives you and how to manage your personal energy throughout the day.

As you understand these practices and meditate regularly under the guidance of an experienced teacher, you will notice within a few weeks that you are able to perform daily activities with greater calm, command, and open-mindedness.

Qualities To Look For In A Meditation Coach

The interpersonal connection between a teacher and student is important for an enjoyable learning experience. You need to look at these skills and abilities when it comes to choosing a meditation coach.

1. Meditation Experience

Although it is not officially stated that a Meditation Coach needs to have ‘x’ number of years of meditation practice that said you should choose a teacher who has a solid practice of his own and should be meditating regularly for about 5 – 7 years if not more.

It is also important for the meditation teacher to have exposure to different meditation techniques, methods, practices so that he is able to understand different perspectives and is in a position to guide you and his students.

2. Trained & Certified Meditation Teacher

You want a teacher who knows the in’s and out’s of meditation. Someone who is specifically trained and is a certified meditation instructor. Your coach should be able to clarify questions about the practice and philosophy of meditation. It is suggested you verify the credentials and work done by the teacher on the internet and on their website if they have one.

Most coaches offer one or two free consultation sessions, take these sessions to know your potential meditation coach. Find out how long they have been practicing meditation, who taught them meditation, what have they studied and what do his trained students say about him etc. It is important you find a teacher with whom you are able to connect so that he is able to guide you through your meditation practice.

3. What Is Your Coach’s Motivation

Why is your coach teaching meditation? Is the main motivation for money or becoming the next big self-help guru? It is important to find someone who’s real intention is to serve and offer services that would truly benefit others. There are people who take up meditation coaching as a side hustle because it is “trending” and want to earn a quick buck.

The point is about genuineness, even though someone is teaching meditation as a side hustle however if the intention of teaching is driven by a true love for service then you have met the right coach.

4. Is There A Teaching System In Place

Does your teacher offer a step-by-step methodology for learning meditation with templates, scripts, and other tools? How well is he or she prepared and how comprehensive is the curriculum content of the session.

A competent teacher with a strong teaching system creates a learning environment that can help you immensely in building a strong foundation for your meditation practice.

5. Does Your Coach “Walk The Talk”

This is a no brainer – Your teacher should have an ongoing meditation practice. Also, your coach who has been practicing meditation should emit certain personal qualities like patience, calmness, kindness, compassion, humility, openness, and ethical conduct.

Do not search for a “perfect” human being however, your coach should be someone who embodies the core attitudes or characteristics that reflect the maturity of his/her meditation practice.

  1. Hi Satish,

I have tried doing meditation in the past, just by following YouTube videos. I don’t think I was doing it right, but it helped a little bit. (I felt relaxed). Maybe that little time of peace and quiet did the trick. ?

To do meditation, you have to have strong will and enthusiasm to do it. You’re right, if it is forced then it becomes a chore. And I think this was what happened in my case. I didn’t really want to do it but some of my friends kept advising me to do it….so I tried with a heavy heart. And after a few weeks, I gave up.
Maybe when the time comes, when I feel I really want to do it, then maybe I will start again….and hopefully with a better focus and motivation.

Giovanni’s voice and way of talking is so calming. I think he will be a very good coach for me should I decide to do meditation in the future. ?

    • Hi Maria,

Developing a consistent meditation practice does require patience. When you force yourself to meditate, it would never work. You need to have a system in place which encourages and supports you meditation practice. Many of us including myself started out with meditation by watching YouTube videos but then it does not help everyone in making meditation a daily habit. Majority of us quit meditation in few weeks. A meditation coach helps you discover the best meditation technique which suits your personality and helps you build a solid foundation for practicing meditation ~ Stay Blessed 🙂

  2. Hi Satish.

Thanks for this very informative post. In the past, I tried several apps to implement meditation in my daily life. However, I always happened to get stuck and quit after a few days… Therefore, having a “personal trainer” would be pretty cool, I guess.

But I feel, as a beginner, it’s probably a bit too much, don’t you think? What would be your approach to (a) get a good idea of what “successful meditation” feels like and (b) make meditation a good habit rather than trying it for a few days and then quitting. I feel like not achieving (a) leads to (b), and not being able to implement (b) into my life leads to (a). How to break that cycle?

I’m really looking forward to your response!

    • Hi Chris,

      Great questions…

Meditation becomes a success only when you incorporate it as a part of your daily routine. It is a daily training that your mind requires to be more present, calm and energized. When you are starting out with meditation, it is important you start small i.e. Start with a 2 minute meditation practice, its easy to succeed and simple to incorporate in you daily routine no matter how busy you are throughout the day.

When you practice 2-minute meditation ensure you do this:

      1) Set a timer for 2 minutes.
      2) Take 10 conscious breaths in and out for 2 minutes.
      3) When thoughts arise in your mind, you observe them and don’t indulge with them…and bring your attention back to your breath.
      4) Count your breaths in your mind this helps you to focus better on your breath.

That’s it – This is a successful meditation.

I hope the 2-minute meditation practice helps you break the cycle of not starting a meditation practice ~ Stay Blessed 🙂

  3. Hi Satish,

At first, I thought that meditating was silly, and I didn’t believe that it will affect me, but I was wrong. I have gained a new perspective on stressful situations, and it has undoubtedly increased my patience and tolerance towards everything in life.

If you haven’t started yet, do so NOW! Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations

  4. Hi Satish,

Meditation is something I heard many times, but, haven’t tried. So I don’t have much idea about meditation. For a beginner like me would you suggest a Meditation Coach ? Is it like hiring a personal trainer to a gym. I heard that Meditation is really good for one’s wellness, but what can you really get from it & how will help me?

    • Hi Mina,

If you have no idea about meditation and have not tried before then I won’t suggest you have a meditation coach. That said, your understanding about the coach is correct, it is like hiring a personal trainer in a gym – A meditation coach can help you in determining the best meditation technique which suits you personality and provide you a system that helps you incorporate meditation as a part of daily habit ~ Stay Blessed 🙂

  5. Hi Satish,

Thank you so much for this incredibly insightful article, Satish! As a devout Christian, I regularly meditate to draw closer to God. My meditation routine usually consists of praying, reading my Bible, sitting in nature (I love to meditate while sitting in my backyard or garage (or in my room when it’s cold outside. Haha)), as well as exercising. I regularly attend church on Sundays, which I consider to be both a worshipping and meditation opportunity. I find that this routine brings me great peace, joy, clarity, relaxation and oneness with God. If one is unsure how to properly meditate, seeking a coach is definitely a good idea! God bless you!

    • Hi Carletta,

Prayers do help us connect with God. I still remember, as a kid, my grandparents used to say through prayers they could speak to god. I used to see them having a strong faith and placing confidence on God. So meditating on bible verses or just sitting in the church reciting a mantra does help one to find peace and calm your mind. Keep the practice going on ~ Stay Blessed 🙂

  6. Hi Satish,

What a great post. I really like it. This reminds me I was advised to seek out mindfulness as a help to find inner peace. Perhaps I will consider a meditation coach to get this going. I will definitely bookmark and share your site, I really too can feel the peace of the coach, How wonderful.
