    I haven’t heard of Stephen Cope but I think you have outlined his ideals and the course very well. I think spiritual understanding of our actions and lifestyle is important. As you said early on in the post, I am one of those people who is not quite sure what it means to know one’s purpose in life. For me, it’s just trying to be the best person I can be and that I do by trusting the “Golden Rule” of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I can see the value in this course for young adults, but I am in my senior years and would find it difficult to affect such a change.     Its a very insightful review about Stephen Cope’s program. You have touched an important point that have triggered most of us, and for which we never had the answer.

    We have heard several times that to be happy and successful in life, you have to find your calling.
    But nobody told us how to do it.

    You really have struck the heart of the issue that many face in life. That the majority of people live a life filled with regrets and excuses. So its great to ask ourselves why & what could be the reason? An even better question is to learn this earlier and find and focus on living a purpose-driven life.

    Easier said than done, with our school and education system pushing us out with questionable skills into an ever changing world that is getting busier. So many get stuck in careers that they don’t enjoy – with this whole 40-45 year plan.

    So how to find that elusive purpose driven life? There are many experts and “guru’s” out there. So its refreshing to read of the approach of Stephen Cope.       Yes indeed, many people want to make a difference, contribute and live a purpose-driven life however sadly its never taught in schools or colleges. All that is taught is to get a good grade, find a job and make a living. Many people are stuck in their lives with such an approach. Worst part is…life has become pallid and mechanical.

    Great post and introduction to Stephen Copes and his program. Ive been trying (and admittedly failing) to get back into yoga and have always loved meditation ever since I was in middle school.     Interesting article, I personally have never tried yoga before but it does sound interesting. I feel like doing some sort of meditation/examining ourselves plays a big factor in how we look at life, how we respond. Look around and be grateful for another day we have been given.

      The Five Paths of Yoga are essentially five branches of the same tree:

      Raja Yoga – Yoga of Mind

      This is a step by step method of cultivating control over your mind. This involves breathing exercises and meditation practices to cleanse our mind and find absolute control over it.

      Bhakti Yoga – Yoga of Emotional

    Great post and interesting topic!

    I think we often times here about finding our true purpose, but no actual guidance on how to do that at times, if at all. I watched the video and felt like Stephen made some good points, one that stood out in particular was about us letting go of results and just focusing on crafting the skill. This is very practical advice that I’ve heard from other people as well, for example, the late Kobe Bryant.

      Yes “letting go results” the third pillar of finding our unique dharma is by far the most challenging because often we live and grew up in a result oriented environment. Since childhood we have been told to achieve and perform. Cope says when we focus on the outcome, we are not in present moment and that affects your dharma, you will not be able to enjoy the fullest expression of your gifts if you attention is grasped by the future outcomes.
